ContourGlobal is an independent power producer focused on developing, acquiring, and operating electricity generation and storage assets across 17 countries. Until 2022, the company was based in London before being taken over by KKR, which now supports a growth strategy oriented toward renewable energies.

With a multi-million-dollar annual travel budget and more than 400 regular travelers, ContourGlobal needed to improve the efficiency of its travel and expense management.The company was looking for a solution that could simplify its overall T&E management, improve the user experience, and increase cost control.

Before Navan

Prior to Navan’s implementation, travel management at ContourGlobal was fragmented. Of the roughly 20 countries where the company has operations, five used the same corporate travel management solution; the others relied on local agencies that were more or less digitized.

For expense reports, all entities used a traditional solution, which led to several limitations such as difficult access to data, unintuitive interfaces, and a high risk of errors, especially in updating users and uploading transactions to the ERP. Additionally, the inventory of flights and hotels available on the platform was limited, forcing travelers to search for off-platform alternatives.

Why Navan

To address these challenges, ContourGlobal conducted a thorough review of existing solutions and chose Navan for two main reasons.

First, the travel and expense components were combined on a single platform, with a centralized and intuitive interface, a competitive inventory, and a seamless user experience.

Second, the support of the Navan team was constant throughout the project, which increased confidence in the chosen solution.

The Navan Effect

After six months of use in 20 countries, the feedback has been very positive. On the implementation side, the deployment was smooth and fast, with decisive and reliable support from the Navan teams. Users immediately adopted the app and are now able to book their own trips in a matter of minutes. Customer support has been responsive and efficient and the feedback from travelers has been very positive.

Expenses are now reimbursed directly in just a few days and without having to go through payroll in most countries, which employees appreciate.

On the administration side, the synchronization of users with the HR tool and the processing of expense reports outside of payroll have reduced human manipulation and the risk of errors.

For finance, the richness and competitiveness of the inventory has led to significant cost savings, while travel compliance monitoring and real-time reporting for all entities provides considerable comfort for the teams.

With Navan, we finally have a modern, comprehensive, and reliable tool to manage our travel and expense reports globally.

Looking Ahead

ContourGlobal plans to continue the deployment of Navan and fully leverage its capabilities. The company wants to standardize travel practices in all countries and continue to improve the employee experience and team satisfaction.
