Doximity, the leading digital medical network for physicians, provides a suite of innovative tools for healthcare professionals, designed to enhance collaboration and improve patient care.
As a fully remote organization with nearly 800 employees and frequent travel needs, managing travel logistics efficiently is critical to Doximity’s operations. “Everyone in the company travels,” says Alex Schlick, senior director of accounting. “We have four offsites a year for each team, so every quarter, every member of the company is flying somewhere.”
Overseeing everything from payroll to systems implementations, Schlick and his team manage all expense-related processes, making travel a major component of their day-to-day operations.
“
Before Navan, if someone got stuck somewhere, they’d call me asking to change their flight. Now, we have a support team that handles all of that – it’s a game-changer.

Before implementing Navan, Doximity’s travel program was largely unstructured. Employees were free to book trips through their preferred platforms — Expedia, Google Travel, or directly with airlines.
But this decentralized approach created challenges with visibility and control. “If somebody got stuck in New York because of bad weather, there wasn’t a lot I could do to help,” said Schlick. “I didn’t have access to their bookings or a support team to rely on.” Event and offsite organizers faced similar frustrations, often discovering at the last minute that employees hadn’t booked travel, resulting in higher costs and logistical headaches.
As Doximity continued to grow, Schlick realized the company needed a modern travel management solution that could improve visibility, reduce manual work, and offer 24/7 support.
When Schlick and his team first evaluated Navan, the platform’s simplicity and built-in controls immediately stood out. “One of the things I really like about Navan is that I don’t need to train new hires on the system,” he said. “You log in and it’s intuitive — you’re right on the page to book business travel.”
The onboarding process was seamless. “I gave Navan a user list and permissions, and they took care of the rest — setting up departments, connecting Okta, and syncing data from our HR system. It was super easy,” said Schlick.
Rolling out the platform company-wide was just as smooth. Employees were given a short transition period, after which all bookings were directed through Navan. “By the time a couple of months rolled by, everybody was using the tool and was happy with it,” he said.
Schlick no longer serves as the company’s de facto travel agent. “Before Navan, if someone got stuck somewhere, they’d call me asking to change their flight,” he says. “Now, we have a support team that handles all of that — it’s a game-changer,” he said. With Navan, Schlick estimates he’s saving five hours a week that were previously spent resolving travel issues. “It’s a lot of time back,” he said.
“
With Navan’s dashboarding, I can see what bookings have been made and forecast accruals accurately. It’s huge for us.

Navan’s reporting capabilities have also been pivotal for financial operations. As a public company, Doximity closes its books by the fourth day of each month, leaving little room for manual accruals. “With Navan’s dashboarding, I can see what bookings have been made and forecast accruals accurately,” Schlick says. “It’s huge for us.”
Real-time visibility has also transformed how the company manages large-scale offsites and advisory boards. “When we host one of our biggest medical advisory boards, we fly in hundreds of influential doctors to San Francisco,” he explains. “Now we can send guest invites directly through Navan, set spending limits, and automatically code those expenses to the right accounts in our general ledger.”
That visibility extends beyond internal operations to Doximity’s philanthropic arm — the Doximity Foundation. “We use Navan to fly doctors around the world for different missions — South America, Africa, Asia — and it’s amazing how easy Navan makes it to manage,” he said.
“
Ultimately, my job is to make travel and expenses as seamless as possible for our people. And every day, Navan helps us to do just that.

Navan has brought control, ease, and peace of mind to Doximity’s travel program. “From a finance standpoint, the system helps prevent fraud and misuse,” said Schlick. “The system handles it.”
As Doximity continues to grow and innovate, Navan remains a trusted partner — simplifying travel, empowering employees, and supporting initiatives that reach far beyond the company’s walls. “Ultimately, my goal is to make travel and expenses as seamless as possible for our people,” said Schlick. “And every day, Navan helps us to do just that.”
