Navan was founded more than a decade ago because business travel was broken — the road warriors driving business forward didn’t have access to the tools they needed. Fixing that, of course, is the whole reason Navan exists, and we’ve come a long way. Today, more than 3,000 Navan employees are continuously innovating to make travel easy for business travelers at the 10,000-plus companies we serve.

We’re more than ten years in, and in many ways we’re just getting started, finding new ways to improve the experience for every frequent traveler. Today, I’m excited to share that we’re opening early access to our newest product: Navan Edge.

Navan Edge is the executive assistant that every business traveler wants, but very few have. Imagine every road warrior receiving proactive, thoughtful support that learns how you like to travel, helps you book the perfect trip, and fixes issues before they become problems.

Navan Edge

We’re building Navan Edge for two groups of travelers. First, travelers who work for companies that have a corporate travel tool, but one that’s so frustrating and limiting, they end up booking around it. That leaves them dealing with the fallout — like unexpectedly canceled hotel reservations after a long flight — on their own.

And the second group, which we are focused on for this early access, is frequent business travelers who don’t have a dedicated booking tool. They do the research on travel and the legwork of managing their bookings, loyalty programs, and adjustments all themselves.

This second group makes up what we call the unmanaged business travel market. And it’s enormous, accounting for approximately $56 billion of the estimated $86 billion total addressable business travel market. We’re designing Navan Edge to give this group the kind of business travel experience they deserve — one that no one else can offer.

At the Center of Navan Edge: Transformative AI

Navan has always pushed the boundaries of what AI can do, and Navan Edge puts that effort on full display.

To start, Navan Edge will focus on helping frequent business travelers find the perfect hotel, through a UX that mirrors how they use AI in their day-to-day lives.

When searching for a hotel, travelers can just use natural language. What Navan Edge gives back isn’t generic information. It provides personalized recommendations that best match the traveler’s preferences: loyalty programs, favored amenities, proximity to the office, nearby coffee shops, and the details that matter — like whether the hotel gym opens early enough for their 6 a.m. routine or if a room with blackout curtains is available. They can also then book directly within their chat.

Now imagine that same level of personalization and proactivity across the entire travel experience. Soon, Navan Edge will come to the rescue for flight disruptions. Knowing when and how travelers like to fly, it will find the best alternatives for their situation and ask them to pick one. It’s that easy. And if the delay means arriving at their hotel hours later than planned, Navan Edge will help ensure the reservation isn’t canceled.

At all times, we have human agents standing by who get a full summary of the problem or special request so they can jump on it to finish the job.

So What’s Next?

We’re looking forward to seeing what some of the world’s most demanding road warriors think of this product in the coming weeks. The Navan Edge roadmap is already featuring flights, restaurant bookings, and integrations with new suppliers.

Our proprietary AI, decades worth of data, and passion for not just meeting but exceeding the needs of frequent travelers have gotten us to this point. And like I said, in many ways we’re just getting started.

There’s more to come as we take business travel to the next level by making it more personal, more modern, and easier for every frequent traveler. At Navan, it’s what we do.
